"We believe that it is a responsibility for a company such as ours to seek to have a beneficial impact on the world around us." — Hans-Paul Bürkner, President and CEO.
At BCG, our social-impact work seeks to make a difference beyond the business world. Combining our private-sector expertise with our deep understanding of the social sector, we collaborate with clients who can produce positive social impact so as to enhance their effectiveness in the causes they support. We focus on building capability and developing breakthrough ideas that deliver high-impact results and that address some of the world's most pressing issues.
Having a beneficial social impact is fundamental to who we are as an organization and is one of our nine stated values. BCG's involvement in this area is motivated by our desire to make a positive difference to society in general and often to the underprivileged in particular. Because our expertise enables us to have a significant effect, we are inspired to work with organizations to make a lasting contribution to both local communities and the world at large.
What We Do
Our work focuses on seven primary topics:
Poverty and Hunger projects support governments and organizations that are dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger—for example, through our global partnerships with the World Food Programme, Save the Children, and other organizations.
Global Health work addresses worldwide health issues facing both the developed and developing countries, including the use of strategies to fight particular infectious diseases like malaria, as well as the design and enhancement of health care access, delivery, and systems.
Education projects include those at the district, state or provincial, and national levels to boost the achievement of schools. It also entails the development of comprehensive strategies for primary, secondary, and higher education, as well as research.
Community and Economic Development activities build strategies to revitalize cities, regions, and countries and increase their competitiveness. We also work with social entrepreneurs around the world to make their ventures more successful.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects help corporate clients take a strategic approach to CSR in order to achieve competitive advantage while maximizing beneficial social impact.
Arts and Culture undertakings help cultural organizations—from symphonies to museums—grapple with a variety of planning issues crucial to the health of these institutions.
Philanthropy and Volunteerism activities support charitable foundations and individuals on issues such as portfolio management, organizational design, and impact measurement.
Specifically in India, we work with a variety of global and local non-profits, government agencies, corporates and other private institutions. We work across a variety of areas, key focus being on informing broad based policy development, education, financial inclusion, children and youth issues and CSR.
On the global level, we work with selected partners in long-term relationships. Our global efforts focus on the challenges of the developing world and seek to support progress toward attainment of the U.N. Millennium Development Goals. Because these are long-term challenges, we believe they require long-term relationships with critical players. We have chosen to partner with
- the U.N. World Food Programme
- Save the Children
- the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
and other organizations in global health.
We have implemented five global initiatives designed to diminish our environmental impact at both the global and local levels. More
