Energy Practice Area

Overview

New trends in economics, geopolitics, industry behavior, and technology are causing tectonic shifts in the energy industry landscape. These shifts pose both a significant threat and an opportunity for the industry. While some players will capitalize on these windows of opportunity, others will destroy value for shareholders and other stakeholders.

Our Practice

BCG’s Energy practice helps companies navigate an increasingly complex business environment. We work with the full range of players in the industry: international energy companies, major integrated oil companies, national oil companies, global power developers, regulated and deregulated utilities, gas companies, government authorities, and regulatory bodies.
Industries within the practice

BCG’s Energy expertise covers several areas including:

Oil
With escalating demand, high oil and gas prices, tight refining capacity, and evolving environmental uncertainty, there is increasing pressure on all facets of the oil industry to reduce costs, improve production, invest in new technology, and increase margins and revenues—all while responsibly addressing environmental issues, security of supply, infrastructure issues, and growth strategies. We offer clear strategic thinking to help oil companies maximize their assets in a climate punctuated by volatility.

Power and Gas
The power and gas landscape continues to change as new policy frameworks develop for carbon dioxide, restructuring accelerates in some markets and re-regulation appears in others, and the trend toward consolidation continues.

We help our clients with some of the key challenges facing the industry such as choosing the right generation mix to maximize portfolios, efficient power generation technologies and assessing the future of gas supply, and the role of liquefied natural gas.

Sustainable Development
We work with clients to develop concrete solutions that achieve a win-win for both the emissions emitters and the world’s energy consumers, who face the challenge of meeting increasing energy needs while reducing greenhouse gases and other emissions.
