Should an automotive manufacturer acquire its biggest competitor?
How can a pharmaceutical company achieve sustainable cost savings in its global supply chain?
What is the most effective way for a luxury-goods brand to enter the Chinese market?
Should a technology firm send some, most, or all of its research and development offshore?
High-level, strategic questions like these defy easy answers and textbook solutions, particularly in today's complex business environment. Yet they are the types of questions that strategy consultants are called upon by clients to answer.
This is the world of strategy consulting. This is the world of BCG.
As an independent consultant, BCG always stands for intellectual honesty and a relentless willingness to challenge reality through facts. In our work, we search for causes, not symptoms; for levers, not barriers. We like to think beyond the obvious, and we value diversity and richness of backgrounds in our teams to ensure the best innovative solutions.
Our clients expect more than an accurate diagnosis of the problem: they want a practical, effective path forward that can generate real, bottom-line results and competitive advantage. In our client work, we continuously ask: "How did we contribute to their success in a practical sense?"
BCG works with the world's most prominent organizations in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. They come from all industries and geographies. How do we deliver value to such a diverse group of clients?
Specific Expertise and Experience
A business might find itself wondering which strategy to adopt to enter an attractive yet competitive market. Over the last 50 years, we have guided many companies through precisely that decision—and we have accumulated a wealth of related knowledge along the way. Incorporating this expertise, born out of experience, into a specific approach for the client that is built on a deep knowledge of the industry dynamics is what makes our contribution so valuable.
Independent Perspective
Businesses often find themselves tied to particular ways of thinking and approaches. We are able to add a fresh and nonbiased analytical point of view to change the way they do business. We combine our clients' knowledge with our ability to see things from different angles to reveal new, valuable opportunities.

From Idea to Impact
Each client and each project offers a new and unique set of challenges and tasks. A project can last two months or two years. But what remains the same are the steps we use to generate new insights, lasting impact, and success for our clients.

The first step is to analyze the client's situation. A deep understanding of the organization and environment is essential. To acquire such an understanding, we pose key questions that determine the starting point and challenge the status quo as a basis for a reorientation. What does the company want to achieve? What are its capabilities? What does the company need to do and what changes does it need to make to achieve a lasting competitive advantage?

In the second step, we develop and assess the options together with the client and discuss them with the company's management. What are the prerequisites for each of the options? What is the short- and long-term impact on the company and on the competition? What are the tradeoffs for the realization of each option? An intensive discussion with the key stakeholders based on a critical assessment of all pros and cons is the basis for the decision. The preferred concept is then developed in more detail in preparation for implementation.

In a decisive third step, we support our clients in ensuring that the developed strategy is implemented. To do so, BCG supports the client team, trains the people involved in the project, and organizes the communication of planned measures at all levels of the organization. Acceptance, transparency, and buy-in from the client are essential. In constructive dialogue with management and employees through regular discussions and workshops, we make sure that the developed changes are accepted and implemented and bring positive results. In this way, we ensure that even a fundamentally new strategy will lead to a real change and lasting competitive advantage—the measure of our work's success.

When a project is completed, all the acquired experience and results are captured in comprehensive project documentation. If new methods or insights were developed, they are described and filed in our knowledge management system, where they are available to all BCG employees worldwide.
